There’s something about being in the mountains that immediately slows everything down. Add a massive waterfall, zero timeline pressure, and two people who already know how to be married? Yeah. This day was special.
A Real Love Story, Reimagined
This technically wasn’t a real elopement day but it was real in all the ways that matter. This couple is one of my past couples that got married a few years before. And like most wedding days, we had 15 minutes to squeeze portraits in before we had to be at their reception. So this was our little year vow renewal add on.
This time we had six whole hours together. No rushing, just wandering, exploring, slowing down, and being in the moment together.
We started early. Like presunries early. Wandered around an incredible field with views of the San Juan mountains before we headed into Telluride for coffee because of course. Once we thawed out, we took the free gondola up to San Sophia Overlook where they read their OG wedding vows to each other (cue some tears here). And the gondola is dog friendly so yes my dog Flapjack tagged along since we were in the area for a week camping. That’s just one of the perks of working with me :)
From there, we Jeeped up the 4WD road to the based of Bridal Veil Falls. It’s an easier 4x4 road, especially when you get there early on a weekday.
And Bridal Veil Falls is massiveeee. Loud. Misty. There are only specific times of year you can even get close because of snow melt. It’s incredible, breathtaking, all of the words you think of when you picture a Colorado elopement.
So there we have it. Two people, water crashing down. Sunlight spilling over the canyon walls. No rushing. And that’s the whole point! This is why an editorial style elopement day, vow renewal, or even just extra time for space and creativity is important. We had space to wander, space to feel, space to be present.

Standing at the base of Bridal Veil Falls, the mist from the cascading water catching the sunlight, these two had a moment that felt straight out of a dream.
